The common form of corrosion in city sewer systems results from the bacterial consumption of hydrogen sulfide gas and the secretion of sulfuric acid. The ConmicShield® additive prevents growth of the acid-producing bacteria and thereby prevents corrosion of the concrete. It is dosed directly into the concrete during its mixing phase so it is throughout the entire thickness of the precast concrete pipe or manhole. It is not a coating; and therefore, it cannot chip, peel, delaminate or disbond from the concrete. It has a successful performance record spanning 15 years in extremely harsh sewer environments.
